Charleston and Savannah are two incredible Southern cities that each boast a unique charm and history. The best part is that these cities are only a two drive from each other so you can visit both of them in one trip! When we went to our babymoon in Charleston, we spent a day exploring Savannah. Savannah is filled with beautiful architecture, cobblestone streets, squares and parks, and delicious food! It was so much fun wandering around this historic city. In this travel guide, I will be sharing everything you can do on a day trip in Savannah from Charleston.
Morning
Brunch at Collins Quarter

On the morning of your day trip in Savannah from Charleston, I would begin your day grabbing brunch at Collins Quarter. There are two locations: Forsyth Park and Downtown. I recommend going to the Forysth Park location so you can walk through the park afterwards. The food was amazing! I got the Bircher Muesli with a matcha latte.
Forsyth Park

After brunch, I recommend taking a stroll through Forsyth Park. This is one of the most famous landmarks in Savannah. The park covers thirty acres and offers a variety of recreational activities. They have gardens, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, events and festivals, and even historic landmarks. The park also has a Farmer’s Market every Saturday.
One of the most photographed spots in Savannah is the Forsyth Fountain. It is Parisian inspired and the architecture is beautiful. The fountain has surrounding benches where you can sit and relax.
East Jones Street

Explore more of Savannah’s historic district and walk through East Jones Street. This was named one of the most beautiful streets in America. You will find charming historic homes, beautiful greenery, and a cobblestone street. It was so nice and peaceful just walking around.
Chippewa Square

Savannah is filled with historic squares, each with its own unique character. One of the squares I would check out is Chippewa Square. This square was actually featured in a scene in Forrest Gump where he sits on a bench!
Afternoon
Lunch at Olde Pink House

When you are in Savannah, you have to eat at Olde Pink House. It’s one of the most popular restaurants in Savannah. Aside from its famous dishes, visitors are also drawn to The Olde Pink House’s incredible architecture and decor. This house was built in 1789 and after you eat, you are free to walk around the home. I also read that it is one of the most haunted restaurants in Savannah! You have to try the blue crab beignets and the BLT salad.
Please keep in mind that it is difficult getting a reservation. I recommend booking one a few months in advanced. We got lucky and were able to book a lunch reservation a few weeks before our trip.
River Street
After lunch, wander around River Street. This street used to be home to cotton warehouses, but has been transformed into shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and bars. This area overlooks the Savannah River. You can spend the rest of the afternoon exploring this street.
Ice Cream at Leopold’s

No trip to Savannah is complete without a visit to Leopold’s Ice Cream. It has been named as one of the top ten ice cream parlors in the world. There usually is a long line, but it moves pretty quickly and is totally worth it! The ice cream was so good and they give you huge scoops!
Drive Back to Charleston
The fun day has come to an end and it is time to drive back to Charleston. After spending an entire day here, you can see why this city is a must-visit destination. From the cobblestone streets and historic squares to the savory Southern food, a day trip to Savannah from Charleston is a great addition to your Charleston itinerary.
