Carl and I have been eager to travel again since the pandemic and we decided to plan a fun road trip in the Northeast. We visited Newport, Rhode Island, Portland and Bar Harbor in Maine, and Boston. I will be creating a blog series all about my road trip and this first post will be all about our weekend trip in Newport, Rhode Island. It’s such a cute town and we had so much fun!
We spent two days in Newport and it is the perfect weekend destination! It’s great for both a romantic getaway and a girls’ trip. We went in the middle of the May, but it’s great to visit anytime of the year. The summer is best, but the busiest.
Things To Do
Newport is filled with so many things to do, but here are my must dos while visiting.
Check out the cute shops on Thames Street
Newport is filled with so many cute little shops. It’s fun to walk around and explore the town.
Grab a drink at The Lawn in Castle Hill Inn
One of the favorite things we did in Newport was grab a drink and hang out at The Lawn in Castle Hill Inn. They have cute white lawn chairs where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sea view. This is also a hotel where you can stay and grab brunch, lunch, and dinner here!
Hike the Newport Cliff Walk
This is a 3.5 mile scenic path where you walk along the shoreline and can see amazing views of the ocean on one side and stunning mansions on the other.
Visit the Mansions
Newport is known for their amazing mansions. Some of the ones we saw were Marble House, The Breakers, and Rose Cliff. You can even go inside and explore.
There are lot of renting companies where you can go on a sailboat tour. It would be so much fun during the summer!
Hang out at the beach! Some of Newport’s best beaches are Easton Beach, Sachuest Beach, Third Beach, and Gooseberry Beach.
Check out Newport Vineyards for a wine tasting!
Places To Eat
Corner Cafe – I loved their avocado toast with sundried tomatoes and goat cheese. Carl got the Cowboy Scrambler. The food was so good!
Belle’s Cafe – It’s such a cute place and it was cool that it was in the middle of a shipyard!
Nitro Bar – We got coffee to go and it was soooo good! Highly recommend!
The Black Pearl – I got the shrimp scampi and it was delicious!
Diego’s – This is a great Mexican place! We got a bunch of small plates to share!
The Mooring Seafood Kitchen and Bar – You have to try their Bag of Doughnuts and the spicy seafood linguini!
Kilwin’s Ice Cream – This is a popular ice cream place in Newport! Their chocolates are also so yummy!
The Cookie Jar – My favorite were the Gingersnap cookies!
Hope you enjoyed my post on our weekend trip in Newport, Rhode Island!
